In a performance that weaves original music, dance and storytelling together onstage, theater group Teatro Punto y Coma will present Samuel, His Widow and the Whispering Flowers as part of the Lipinsky Family Jewish Arts Festival (JFest).
The original musical, performed by Music Director Andrew Mayer, combines traditional melodies and contemporary compositions based on a story by Pepe Stepensky and Sore Gordon.
Told in Spanish, the story follows main character Sorele, whose husband has disappeared under mysterious circumstances. As fear and uncertainty grow across the shtetl, the community rallies around Sorele. Themes of memory, faith, and resilience guide the characters through a moving tale about love, solidarity, and the strength of community.
As of 2026, JFest is now a fully independent nonprofit arts organization. Over the past three years, JFest has thrived — more than tripling in size and programming — presenting Tony Award-winning artists like Mandy Patinkin and Alex Edelman, and developing original musicals. Today, JFest presents three months of programs in twelve venues across San Diego and North County.
