This spring, as wine lovers nationwide prepare to celebrate National Wine Day on May 25, the Wines of Israel offer a meaningful and memorable way to elevate the moment, promoting history, innovation and a vibrant Mediterranean spirit.
“What makes Israeli wine so compelling right now is the balance — thousands of years of heritage paired with bold innovation. It’s a category that surprises people, and once they discover it, they come back for more,” said Josh Greenstein, Executive Director of the Israeli Wine Producers Association (IWPA).
Grapes Shaping Israel’s Wine Story
Argaman — A bold, Israeli-developed varietal known for its deep color and rich notes of blackberry, plum, and Mediterranean spice.
Dabouki — A historic indigenous grape with roots tracing back to biblical times, now revived to produce crisp, mineral-driven white wines.
Pairing Suggestions
- Cabernet Sauvignon / Syrah (Judean Hills) — grilled meats, lamb, hearty entrées
- Mediterranean Blends (Grenache/Carignan) — roasted chicken, shawarma, smoky vegetables
- Sauvignon Blanc / Marawi — salads, fish, hummus, herb-forward dishes
- Rosé (Golan/Galilee) — brunch, light fare, warm-weather celebrations
“There’s a deeper meaning when you pour Israeli wine,” added Greenstein. “It’s not just about what’s in the glass. It is about sharing a story, celebrating heritage, and creating new memories with the people you love.”
