At Congregation Adat Yeshurun, opening our doors has long been part of building community. Prayer, learning and Jewish life are at the heart of the synagogue, while its distinctive La Jolla campus also provides a beautiful setting for the celebrations and gatherings that bring people together.
The sanctuary’s high ceilings, warm wood paneling, and spacious interior provide an impressive setting for Bar and Bat Mitzvot, weddings, and other Jewish milestones. Over the years, many a catered meal has been served within these walls, as families celebrate surrounded by relatives, friends and community. Weddings and other Jewish lifecycle celebrations have also filled the synagogue with music, conversation and celebration.
Step outside, and the atmosphere changes. Adat’s courtyard is centered around an imposing Torrey Pine, with greenery and the sounds of nature creating a quiet, almost magical setting. It has provided the backdrop for Kallah-Mikvah luncheons, receptions and family celebrations, and can be used on its own or together with the indoor spaces.
The campus has also welcomed a broad cross-section of the San Diego community. San Diego JFest has brought artistic performances to Adat; local schools have held fundraisers and graduation ceremonies; and businesses and nonprofit organizations have gathered for presentations, meetings and board events.
The spaces are remarkably adaptable. For celebrations with round tables, the indoor facilities can accommodate approximately 320 guests, while presentation-style seating can welcome as many as 700.
And because food is so often at the center of a gathering, Adat’s kosher kitchen is available for rental, allowing caterers to prepare and serve meals on site. Events at the synagogue are held in accordance with its kosher standards.
Whether beneath the sanctuary’s soaring ceilings or outdoors under the Torrey Pine, the setting may change from one occasion to the next. What remains constant is the opportunity to gather—in a space where Jewish life and community are very much at home.
