Art of Élan’s 10th Anniversary Season

0

If you haven’t heard of young Israeli-born composer Avner Dorman yet, you will very soon. His star is on the rise.

Dorman writes music of intricate craftsmanship and rigorous technique, expressed with a soulful and singular voice. A native of Israel, Dorman draws on a variety of cultural and historical influences in composing, resulting in music that affects an emotional impact while exploring new territories. He lives in Cleveland, Ohio, where he is the current music director of City Music Cleveland Chamber Orchestra. His music is championed by conductors across the county including Zubin Mehta.

On June 17, Art of Élan supporters and friends will gather to celebrate a decade of pioneering unique chamber music events and bringing the excitement of classical music to diverse audience. The celebration at Qualcomm Hall will feature the return of Art of Élan co-founder Demarre McGill and the Myriad Trio performing the world premiere of an Art of Élan commissioned work by Dorman himself. Honorary Chairs for this one-night-only event are Joyce and Ted Strauss

Ten years ago, two young San Diego Symphony musicians, Kate Hatmaker and Demarre McGill, had an idea for a way to expose new audiences to the excitement of classical music. Based on the idea of innovative, “mixtape” programming that would combine both new and old works, Art of Élan created a model of short, one-hour concerts in unique venues, providing for a more personalized and human approach to connecting with concertgoers, and proving that classical music does still have relevance, given the right context. Add to that a commitment to commissioning new work and you have a model of an innovative and unique chamber music organization.
